A Promise to Love Better

The week of August 23rd was awful.

I remember thinking, why does Ryan seem so calm. How is he not freaking out or filled with rage on what’s happening in Afghanistan?

I married steady because when I’m feeling out of sorts, I look to him.

I didn’t just marry a Marine, I married a man who makes being a Marine special.

The sacrifices are hard. The sudden losses horrendous.

But the people who make up our military are steady. They are strong and able.

I’m so scared of what will happen tomorrow but I know we will be okay. I know it because we have to be. All of this pain has to mean something.

My military family is hurting. I watch my friends worry about when and if their loved ones will come home. I wish I could take it all away for them, but I can’t.

What we can do is remember & boldly love each other better. I’m starting with this guy right here.

Today, I promise to love him better.
