Snail Mail Keeps Friends Close Despite Social Distancing

I love social media. It brings so much good to my life because of how I choose to use it. It is the connector for most of my friendships, since I move so often as a military spouse. However, in light of the worrisome state of the world due to COVID-19, my social media is filled with conspiracy theories and fear mongering. I’m sure you can relate to wanting to escape the narrative.

Social media, when it’s healthy, allows me to do things like see my friend’s kids grow up, even though they are now living in Okinawa, Japan. It allows me to catch up on the day-to-day of my childhood best friend in Ohio and my former pregnancy bump buddy in San Diego. However, I’m in need of a more intimate way to connect with friends from the different seasons of my life. I’m choosing letter writing.

The news means graduation will potentially be cancelled. I hope this isn’t the case and this virus dissipates as quickly as it has spread. Even if you may not get the graduation experience you hoped for, I still encourage you to celebrate completing college. It’s still a big deal whether you get to toss your cap in the air with your classmates or not.

Throw a small family or virtual party, send out an announcement or thank you note to those who supported your college journey. Don’t let this virus dampen your excitement. Check out Basic Invite for graduation invitations or announcements. Keep looking for ways to keep the fun in your life even if life isn’t going as planned. Use code: 15FF51 for 15% off.

As a reader, I’m asking you to participate in a poll in my comments section.

Please, answer the following:

  1. You received a package of customer stationary, are you more likely to mail a note to a long distance friend?

  2. If a friend sent you a letter, would you write them back?

  3. Do you like receiving mail from a friend?

If you answered “YES” to all the above, will you join me in a fun challenge?

Pick 5 friends and send them a random note in the mail. Tell them something you like about them, share a funny memory, just say something to brighten their day, or all the above!

Are you up for the challenge?
