My Five Star Reads in 2023 (so far)
A Court of Silver Flames, by Sarah J. Maas
The final book in the ACOTAR series (so far). I am now fully invested in this world, these character—I want to be a Fae so badly. This certainly means I am one of the “children of the blessed.” I wasn’t a fan of the fantasy genre until this series. Now I can’t wait to read what Sarah J Maas writes next.
Cloud Cuckoo Land, by Anthony Doerr
Once you are about 35% through the book, it starts to pick up. By then, the historical references aren’t so overwhelming. This book was poignant and fascinating. I will be processing this one for a while.
The Bodyguard, by Katherine Center
I loved this story. I laughed out loud, felt utterly frustrated, and fist pumped the air by the end.
Everyone Is Beautiful, by Katherine Center
This book made me feel seen. The way she explores the journey of a mother of three trying to find herself was so relatable. I loved every bit.
Carrie Soto Is Back, by Taylor Jenkins Reid
TJR does it again. She created a realistic fictional character. I wanted Carrie Soto to be real like I wanted it for Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo. This book reads like a memoir, which thinking this way will help you get into it. The audiobook has an exceptional cast. I loved the first person perspective. Being inside Carrie Soto’s head was frustrating but enlightening. I don’t even follow tennis but I was listening to the game recaps in this book as if they were happening in real time. TJR even had me googling Serena Williams’ stats. I’m a Carrie Soto fan for life.
A House of Sky and Breath, by Sarah J. Maas (book 2)
Holy Cthona! My brain is short circuiting. This book—that ending—Whaat! I am bewitched body and soul by the worlds of Sarah J Maas. I’m counting down the days until book 3 is released.
Before I Let Go, by Kennedy Ryan
I need one of my Bookclubs to read this next, so I can unpack my feels. I can’t go into too many details for fear of giving the story away. But I will say this, reading this will break you apart but then superglue you back together.
A House of Earth and Blood, by Sarah J. Maas (book one)
All I will say is SJM can do no wrong!
The Nightingale, by Kristin Hannah
I can’t articulate what this book did to me. Wow.
