The Magic of Three
I started to believe my middle name was “overwhelmed.”
I’m a “yes girl” by nature. I love being involved in projects. I like taking point on tasks. I hate missing out so I say yes. I hate letting others down almost as much as I hate letting myself down.
When I fill my plate, I in turn fill up my to-do list. It becomes a mountain I can’t summit in 24 hours, which is my self-imposed time limit.
That is when the negative self-talk surfaces. I think, “I’m a terrible mom, wife, coach, team leader, friend, etc.”
I face my chaos by not moving. I stall with negative thoughts, convinced I’m going to fail at everything that I touch.
But come on - how ridiculous does that sound?
We all handle stress in a similarly ridiculous way. What I remind myself is to look at what was accomplished in a day. Don’t look at that never ending list. Don’t look at what you haven’t done. Look at what you have rocked in the last 24 hours.
Plan each day the night before with three things you will accomplish. That way, anything else you accomplish is extra. Did anyone else love bonus points and gold stars in school?
Think about everything else as your own personal gold star.
